Doyt Perry Stadium is a 23,724 seat facility which is the home of the Bowling Green
State University football team in the Mid American Conference. Numerous addition,
changes and tweaks to the buildings designed over the years to raise and
subsequently lower the stadium’s capacity, and engineering plans were even
incorporated into the design to one day add upper decks and bring the stadium
capacity to over 60,000 should the need warrant

The stadium sits along the edge of I-75, and anchors the easterly end of the BGSU
campus. Surrounding the stadium are expansive parking lots and a tennis center right
next door. South of the stadium along a multi laned Wooster Street are suburban style
retail establishments and gas stations.

The stadium opened in 1966 and has been the home of the Falcons throughout its
existence. Additions to each of the end zones in later years added athletic training
facilities and team offices. Additionally, a press box and exclusive Stadium Club
straddles the west side bleachers.

Our visit here did not go well for the home team. The attraction of the visiting Boise
State team brought a sellout crowd into the place, but they could only watch in dismay
as Boise State racked up a 29-0 halftime lead enroute to a 49-14 win sending many of
the fans towards the exits early on.

While tailgating is very prevalent, what with the big expanses of asphalt and lawns all
around the stadium, it was hard to find any particular traditions or rituals unique to
BGSU football. Fans here told us that MAC opponent Toledo, located just 20 miles
away, makes for a great natural rival, and Bowling Green/Toledo games usually bring
out the best of the fan crazies here.
