Kyle Field and the Texas A&M Aggies was our 28th NCAA College football venue. And
after experiencing a stupendous day here, we have to say it was the best college
football experience ever in our travels.

The stadium seats just over 83,000 fans, and is a patchwork of old and new, and the
gritty older parts of the venue provide a stark contrast to the massive 4 decked end
zone, which was completed in 1999, and the state of the art Mtitsubishi diamond vision
video board, which was installed in the south end zone in 2006.

What makes the day here so special? Combine the history and tradition of the
program, the energy you feel in the building, the, pageantry, rituals and chants and
songs which play out throughout the contest, and what you get is a superb event.

Here at Kyle Field, it all starts with the raising of the American and Texas flags, and the
singing not only of our national anthem, but the unofficial anthem of the state, “Texas
My Texas”.

The all male cheerleader squad here act more like conductors, dressed in white and
gesturing hand and body signals to the crowd to join in various songs and chants. And
as if on cue, the fans oblige. The packed stands rock back and forth to the school’s
fight song, they jeer and heckle as a synchronized bunch. The band sits at the 50 yard
line behind the visitors bench, and they are surrounded by the student section, many
dressed in cadet uniforms and sporting military buzzcuts. It must be impossible for
opposing teams to even hear themselves think!

It is here where the phrase “The 12th Man” was coined and copyrighted. It is here
where the students stage the biggest bonfire each year on campus, prior to the arrival
of their hated rivals the Texas Longhorns. Aggies fans are some of the loudest and
most passionate we have seen anywhere.

We saw the Aggies absolutely demolish the visiting Baylor Bears, 38-3, and with over
500 yards of total offense and some timely defensive pics, this was a total whitewash.

After the game they allow fans to go on to the field to toss some footballs and take
snaps. The cadets catch the white clad cheerleaders and take them to a nearby
fountain to douse them in water… all part of the tradition. They sing the fight song and
rock back and forth yet one more time. Gosh what fun!

Gig ‘em Aggies! Small wonder why this is one of the most intimidating college football
venues in the nation. A Texas Aggies football game is a true experience to be enjoyed
and savored.
