MOLINEUX STADIUM
This is one of the oldest soccer programs and oldest stadiums in England, dating
back to the late 1800's. Wolverhampton, their team more commonly known as just
"Wolves", play in a four sided and four standed soccer configuration which was
upgraded to include a new team store and a restaurant overlooking the pitch, but a
working scoreboard or video board remains on the "to do" list. When outside, find the
vending cart with the roast park and stuffing sandwich. It is to die for.
BOLEYN GROUND - UPTON PARK
One of the stately older venues of British soccer, Upton Park, more commonly known
as it refers to the surrounding neighborhood, is located in a gritty part of Northeast
London. With 35,000 seats, two video boards inside, scarce parking and plenty of
food vendors outside, taking the Tube and walking down Green Street to soak in the
game day atmosphere is your best bet
WEMBLEY STADIUM
It is the national stadium of England, and at the cost of £798-million, is the second
most expensive such venue built anywhere in the world. Located on the site of the
historic old Wembley, the building's signature arch holds up much of the stadium's
roof, and when lit up at night can be seen for miles. Fingers are crossed here that
Wembley Stadium will someday be the home venue for a permanent NFL team in
London.
USRT - EUROPE
SIGNAL IDUNA PARK
The home of Borussia Dortmund, Signal Iduna Park is the largest stadium in
Germany and the 6th larges in all of Europe. The team is a perennial contender and
the fans pack 'em in this place, joining in with traditional chants and songs to raise
the energy level to a fever pitch.
AWD ARENA
Beer gardens, a massive fairground next door hosting the Fruhlingfest and
Oktoberfest, and a nice park are all near AWD Arena, the 49,000 seat home to
Hannover 96. An older venue that has been renovated to give it a fresh new look, the
City of Hannover is also a newer city, having recovered nicely from the devastation of
World War II.
